June 2025 Race Weekend Recap

Updates to the car for this weekend:

We reduced rear tire size from last weekend: we were 30lbs underweight for the second race, and to be sure that never happens again moving forward, going down 20mm width in tire size puts us in a lower weight bracket. So instead of being 30lbs underweight, we will be 70 lbs over the minimum. We also mounted the GoPro in a better location over my right shoulder instead of on the windshield. We screwed up the camera settings for the first race, but fixed it for the last two. I hope you like it! We do – you can see where I’m looking, what throttle or brake inputs im doing, and you can see the cars behind me partially in the rear view mirror.

Qualifying:

Unfortunately after the full week before saying it would rain the whole day, qualifying was completely dry. I did what felt like an OK lap, but ended up being 12th.

Race 1:

The rain on Saturday came at a perfect time! I went from 12th to 2nd in a lap and a half as the quattro gave me a massive advantage. the first 4 minutes of this video are great, the rest is just me holding second place. The guy that won was in a FWD mini and started 2nd. He was long gone by the time I got to second and his FWD gave him enough of a boost in the rain where I couldnt catch him.

Race 2:

Started 2nd, finished 4th! In the dry. Nothing too crazy happened.

Race 3:

Started 3rd after the top 6 were reversed, finished 8th. I had a tough time with the tires in the dry and could not keep up with those ahead. By the end I was kinda no where. No one around me.

Next Race Weekend: June 5 and 6!

Pre-2025 GT27 Season Update

Hi everyone!

Long time no update on here, sorry! Last season was crazy, and I missed several races. The season started out with a crash:

The driver ahead of me somehow mixed up his brake and clutch pedals. so the green flag dropped, everyone started the race, then a few seconds later when he goes to make his first shift, he slams on the brakes. screwed up our bumper pretty good, and bent the hood. Dad did a lot of work to get it back going for a month later and we also upgraded our radiator which was destroyed.

First Race Win

The August race weekend was wet, and the Audi was dominant! First in practice, Pole position by over 3 seconds, and race win by 15 seconds – 45 seconds ahead of third place! We had a wiper failure right before qualifying so the video didnt turn out great but it was a great time in crazy conditions

3 Hour Enduro Podium

In March we had a 3 hour race with 3 drivers and pitstops and refueling and everything! It was an amazing team effort and after 3 hours and 65 laps, we ended up in third place after qualifying 9th!

look at the other post here for more pictures taken by a professional.

This season we have 5 more GT27 sprint race weekends!

August 2023 Race Recap

Pre-race updates, work, testing

Fun news! VelocityAP in oliver installed a spare second seat in the car, and we used the friday practice times to take a 15 year old paraplegic from Chilliwack out on the track to show what is still possible with an SCI. He loved it!

Secondly: The Spin, a magazine made by Spinal Cord Injury BC, is doing a story on our race team and my successes last year. The sponsors are mentioned in it and I will be sure to get an extra copy for all the sponsors!

Thirdly: our team photographer, Bryce Chora, attended these races and got a whole handful of amazing new shots. I will share these on our instagram and in a separate post here soon.

As for new work on the car: My dad completely re-did the exhaust from the headers back. It was 2.5 diameter and had 2 mufflers. Now it was 3 inch diameter exhaust and only 1 muffler. The goal here was to give me a little more power and make it sound better. Good news was that the data showed that yes, we had more power and were marginally faster on the straights. Bad news was that it was WAYYYYY too loud. In addition to the videos now being completely drowned out by car audio, competitors and spectators both took note. Dad has since installed a second muffler back into it to tone it down. Dad also completely re did the alignment, and that benefitted greatly. the car is much better balanced now and a lot easier to toss into corners without race-killing understeer.

Practice and Qualifying

Because the fires in the okanagan were so severe and with all the evacuations in Kelowna, there was fewer people in the races than normal. I think there was 17 on the saturday. I finished 4th (!!) in practice (mainly because not everyone was trying, but also I had my best ever lap), and when everyone turned up for qualifying, I ended up 8th! That’s our first ever qualifying and we were very happy with that. I was less than 2 seconds away from pole position. That’s by FAR the closest we’ve been yet.

Feature Race

Unfortunately for anyone watching the video, the feature race wasn’t very exciting. There was still a couple very fast cars behind us, and they got through in the first lap and a half, then after that, I was in a lonely 12th for the rest of thhe race. I couldn’t catch up to 11th, and was way faster than 13th behind me. I used this loneliness to practice managing the tire temperatures – this was very valuable for me. I did my last 9 laps all within 0.8 of a second. I have never had that consistency over a 12 lap race before and I learned a lot about managing the car’s pace over a longer race.

To Summarize:

It was a tie with our best ever race weekend! We got an 8th, a 10th, and 12th. Two more top 10 finishes, our first top 10 qualifying, and a boatload more points in the championship! We are currently in tenth out of 27 in the championship and looking to do everything we can in September to hold onto that!
